Returning for an exciting third season of after-hours adventure, the outdoor experience is set to open on November 8.

Fernbank Museum’s acclaimed WildWoods: AGLOW is a multi-sensory nighttime experience that invites guests to take an exploratory walk through nature under the cover of darkness and discover the stories of connectivity, pollination and nocturnal activities.

Visitors will step outdoors and into a zen-like, magical setting to wander the paths of WildWoods among towering, artistically illuminated sculptures, glowing displays, impressive projections and curated soundscapes of original musical compositions — all designed to showcase the native flora and fauna of the woodlands.

The WildWoods: AGLOW experience

New for the 2024 season, artistic sculptures have been placed alongside the boardwalk in WildWoods: AGLOW, including glowing dandelions, fluttering dragonflies, a swarm of bats, garden light towers and more. Highlights include an interactive tulip poplar pod, projections of nocturnal wildlife and native plant species and larger-than-life incandescent mushrooms.

“We want to give our guests an opportunity to connect with the hidden surprises of the nocturnal world,” said Sarah Arnold, director of education for Fernbank Museum. “So many of the species featured in the experience are either nocturnal or very reclusive, so we don’t get to see them often.”

As part of the family-friendly experience, attendees can also enjoy an after-hours giant screen showing of the film, Flight of the Butterflies, along with access to all three floors of indoor exhibits. The museum’s special exhibits: Armored Animals (through January 5); Winter Wonderland (from November 23 to January 12) and Ultimate Dinosaurs (starting February 8) are also included.

The details

WildWoods: AGLOW is a limited-run, nighttime experience offered on select evenings from November 8 through February 23. It’s open to all ages, except on nights that it coincides with Fernbank After Dark, an adults-only (21+) event that takes place on the second Friday night of each month.

Fernbank After Dark dates are November 8, December 13, January 10 and February 14. All-ages access to the experience is available on most other nights.

Tickets range from $15.95–$34.95. Special member pricing is available.
