Volunteers are encouraged to register today for the City of Dunwoody’s 9th annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service, which takes place Monday, January 20.
Dunwoody Parks and Recreation has partnered with the Dunwoody-Atlanta Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. to recognize the national holiday with volunteer service projects, a community food drive and blood drive.
“Every year, we look forward to building on the enthusiasm and success of the MLK Day of Service,” said Denise Daisy, president of the Dunwoody-Atlanta Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. “It’s important that we take inspiration from Dr. King and invest in the communities in which we live.”

Giving back through service
Taking place on the third Monday in January, the National Day of Service marks the birthday of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and is the only federal holiday observed as a national day of service. In line with Dr. King’s vision, the annual event is designed to empower individuals, bridge barriers, solve problems and strengthen communities.
“We are truly thankful for the volunteers who show up each year with a spirit of generosity,” said Dunwoody Mayor Lynn Deutsch. “From fighting hunger to caring for our environment, these projects are a powerful reminder that we can honor his legacy by uniting as friends and neighbors to serve our community.”
