The city has received the Excellence in Financial Reporting award every year since incorporation
The City of Dunwoody has earned the 2023 Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, an award it has received from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) every year since becoming a city.
In addition, the GFOA awarded Dunwoody with the 2025 Distinguished Budget Presentation Award and special recognitions for the presentation of Strategic Goals and Strategies and its Capital Program.
The excellence designation for Dunwoody’s annual comprehensive financial report is considered the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting. Awards are designed to encourage and assist state and local governments to prepare annual comprehensive financial reports that evidence the spirit of transparency and full disclosure.
“These are significant accomplishments and extremely prestigious awards for our finance team,” said Dunwoody City Manager Eric Linton. “These awards are reflective of the commitment by Dunwoody City Council and staff to meet the highest principles of government budgeting and reporting.”
Meeting high standards
This year’s certificate is for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2023. According to GFOA, the comprehensive annual financial report was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes “demonstrating a constructive ‘spirit of full disclosure’ to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.”
The Distinguished Budget Presentation Award was granted for successful adherence to nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. Special recognitions for Strategic Goals and Strategies and Capital Program were received as all reviewers gave the highest possible scores in both categories.
“Our goal is to produce financial and budget reports that are accessible, understandable and transparent,” said Dunwoody Finance Director Richard Platto. “We hold ourselves to the highest standards, and these awards reflect our team’s dedication and hard work.”
