People and Places at Norcross Gallery & Studios

Painting of a thin Black man with a cap on backwards sitting in a chair with his arms resting on the back
The Choreographer by Geri Zaki

Norcross Gallery & Studios has opened a fresh new exhibit. Titled “Nothing But People,” it displays — in many media and styles — our natural fascination with humans in their endless variety.

The show opened on March 27 and continues through April 26 with a free and open reception on Sunday, April 13 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

On exhibit

Outstanding paintings in the exhibit include “The Choreographer” by Geri Zaki. Zaki shared that a choreographer “is an artist whose expression is so much like a painter or a music composer. The choreographer arranges his art with the movement of dancers in coordination with music just as I would move around paint on a canvas to achieve an inspired statement hoping to connect my vision with the viewer.”

Black and white image of an old man with white facial hair, wearing a scruffy hat. He's sitting outside holding a cup of coffee in his hand.
Old Man by Mikki Dillon

Mikki Root Dillon’s photograph “Old Man” is a soulful portrayal of a man who had lost his home to hurricane Hugo. She attempted to send him a copy, but sadly he passed away before receiving it; Dillon said she wanted him to see how beautiful he was.

Painting of a young boy wearing a blue button up shirt. He's sitting in a chair, looking off to the side. The background is a light purple-pink.
Ramsey by Lynda Ellis

The appealing portrait “Ramsey” by Lynda Ellis shows the innocent sincerity of the 7-year-old, who Lynda said posed as naturally as a professional model in the weekly sketch group held at Norcross Gallery.

Painting of a person in muted brown and earth tone colors. The subject is 3/4 face, looking off to the side.
I Knew I Could Do it by Mike MacManus

In “I Knew I Could Do It,” Mike MacManus shows a portrait of his son, whom the artist said “constantly surprises him with what he accomplishes in life.”

Additional exhibits

In addition to the Nothing But People exhibition, photographer Ashley Lynch’s striking photographs remain on display at the Norcross Cultural Arts & Community Center until May 9, to be followed by a student show that will feature the works of students from Paul Duke STEM and Norcross High School. These pieces will be on display at the Cultural Center and The Rectory.

Local painters, Julie Roberts and Karen Mayer Johnson, are currently celebrated as Artists of the Month, and their featured paintings are hanging in the cozy, art-friendly 45 South Café in downtown Norcross.
