The City of Norcross has announced the hiring of David Versel as its new economic development director, ushering in a new era of innovation, strategic growth and community impact. With an impressive and wide-ranging background in real estate, planning and public-private collaboration, his arrival marks a significant milestone in the city’s ongoing commitment to economic excellence.

Versel’s start couldn’t come at a more fitting time — Economic Development Week, celebrated nationally this year from May 11 through May 17, by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC), is all about recognizing the people and programs that help communities thrive. For Norcross, it’s the perfect opportunity to introduce the person who will be leading that charge.

“Norcross is a special community with opportunities for growth and prosperity in its historic downtown, commercial corridors and industrial areas,” said Versel. “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to lead the city’s economic development team and help guide its next chapter.”

Decades of experience

Versel brings over two decades of experience to the role, having worked in more than 250 communities across 30 states. He has partnered with city governments, private developers, nonprofits, universities and corporations — giving him a 360-degree perspective on how to build thriving, balanced local economies.

Prior to joining Norcross, he founded and led a national consulting practice and held senior leadership positions with multiple public and private sector organizations in Georgia, Virginia and Maine.

Versel holds a Master of City Planning from Georgia Tech and a B.A. in Architecture from Washington University in St. Louis. He lives in Alpharetta with his wife, Maurisa, and their four children. He’s also a dedicated youth sports coach.

The City of Norcross shared that they “couldn’t be more confident in this appointment — and we can’t wait to see the impact David will make in his role. His leadership comes at a pivotal time, and the city is eager to move forward with a clear vision, guided by a proven expert.”
