What is Happening at Norcross Gallery and Studios This October/November?

OCTOBER/NOVEMBER CLASSES

Beginning Watercolor – This foundational watercolor class is taught by instructor, Lucy Brady. The class is four weeks long and meets every Monday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Members can participate for $135 and the cost for non-members is $155.

Key dates: October 16, 23 and 30, and November 6

Beginning Painting in Oil – Taught by instructor Patty Grewe-Mullins, this beginner oil painting class meets for five weeks, every Monday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The class costs $135 for members and $155 for non-members. There is also a $40 fee for supplies.

Key dates: October 16, 23 and 30, and November 6 and 13

Abstraction in Acrylics – This class on acrylic painting meets every Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., for four weeks and is led by instructor Chitra Ramanathan. Studio members can take this class for $135, and non-members can take it for $155.

Key dates: October 20 and 27 and November 3 and 10

OCTOBER WORKSHOPS

Plein Air: Paint Your Art Out – Painting “plein air” is the art of painting outdoors, where artists can directly observe how light, and color affect the landscape. Join award-winning impressionist painter Kathy Collins for a three-day workshop that outlines the basics of painting plein air. 

From palette to packing, she will lead you through the process. As well as receiving instruction, you will have time to set up, and paint in, beautiful historic Norcross. The workshop costs $150 for members and $170 for non-members.

Key dates: October 6, 7 and 8

NOVEMBER WORKSHOPS

Portrait Drawing for Painting Demonstration – This FREE portrait drawing demonstration is led by instructor Anne Emerson Hall. During the demonstration, you will learn why understanding structure is the key to creating a likeness. You’ll see the head as a three-dimensional object in space and how skeletal landmarks show where to place the features. You’ll also discover how to establish a sense of the axis and center line that will transform the way you see and draw. 

Key date: Saturday November 4, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Portrait Drawing for Painting Workshop Instructor Anne Emerson Hall will also be teaching a workshop that builds on, and practices applying, the concepts of structure for creating a likeness in portrait drawing. It costs $25 to attend this workshop.

Key date: Saturday, November 11, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

ONGOING EVENTS

Live Model Sketch Group – The moderators for this group are Lynda Ellis and Anne Emerson Hall.

  • Key dates: every Tuesday, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Cost: $16 for members and $22 for non-members. Package prices available.

Daytime Open Studio – The moderator for this open studio time is Anne Labaire.

  • Key dates: every Thursday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Cost: $5 for members and $10 for non-members.

Evening Open Studio – The moderator for this open studio time is Patty Grewe-Mullins.

  • Key dates: every Wednesday, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Cost: $5 for members and $10 for non-members.
