Completion of the first phase of the new path enhances connectivity, safety and walkability in Perimeter Center
Dunwoody city leaders, along with partners from the Perimeter Community Improvement Districts (PCIDs) and Perimeter Mall cut the ribbon on phase one of the Ashford Dunwoody Path during a special event on Thursday, April 3, near the corner of Ashford Dunwoody Road and Hammond Drive.
“This milestone project marks a major step forward in our commitment to improving connectivity in Dunwoody’s Perimeter Center,” said Dunwoody City Mayor Lynn Deutsch. “This project reflects the power of partnership and shared investment, and we’re grateful to PCIDs and Perimeter Mall for their support in bringing this vision to life.”
Phase one of the Ashford Dunwoody Path includes:
- A two-way raised cycle track separated from traffic by a wide landscape buffer
- A wider, ADA-compliant sidewalk
- New bus shelter, pedestrian lighting and landscaping improvements
- A route that runs along Ashford Dunwoody Road, in front of Perimeter Mall, from Hammond Drive to Perimeter Center West
The Ashford Dunwoody Path is part of Dunwoody’s long-range Transportation Plan and Trail Master Plan. The overall project has been split into phases to facilitate funding and implementation.
Phase two, which will extend the path north from Perimeter Center West to Ashford Center Parkway, is currently in the right-of-way acquisition stage.
The $1.5 million construction cost for phase one was shared equally between the City and PCIDs. PCIDs also fully funded aesthetic upgrades, including decorative pavers and street furniture.
The City of Dunwoody funded its portion through hotel/motel tax revenue.
